Historical Background
Lincoln Park School was originally established as Brownsville Gateway School. In 1970 the school became the Brownsville Opportunity School. The main campus building was constructed in 1981, and the latest addition was completed in 2002. At the time, the school served its first population consisting of special needs students from 1970 throughout the eighties. The Teen Parent program was introduced in the 1990-1991 school year and joined the special education units that were already established at the campus. The school currently houses numerous classrooms that include: a CTE Medical Billing Lab, Servsafe Managers/Handler's Certification, Microsoft Office Specialist, First Aid/CPR Classes, Wood Shop Labs and a State Licensed Day Care Facility.
Lincoln Park's enrollment is very diverse with students enrolling throughout the school year, while still being held accountable for attendance and grade commitments. Lincoln Park School "does" fall under the Texas Education Agency's Accountability Standards as a Stand Alone Accredited High School. Students take STAAR-EOC Examinations; the school accepts responsibility in continuing a focus on the instructional component that will result in passing scores. Lincoln Park students are placed on a career pathways that lead to a college education; developing life long learners and contributing members to our community.
